Harmony is a website of Guyanese folk songs at harmony.gy. This page explains what information is collected when you visit, why, and the choices you have.
What we collect
No accounts
You do not need to sign up or give us your name to use the site.
When you email us
If you write to info@harmony.gy, we receive your email address and what you send. We use it only to reply and, where you have sent a correction or a story, to improve the song pages. We do not sell or share it.
When you use the contact form
The form on our Contact page asks for your name, your email address and your message. When you press Send, these are passed to FormSubmit (formsubmit.co), a service that delivers them to our inbox at info@harmony.gy. We use them in the same way as an email: only to reply, and to improve the song pages. FormSubmit's own privacy policy covers how it handles the message on the way.
Visitor statistics
We may use a statistics service to count visits and see which pages are popular, such as Google Analytics or Plausible. These services record things like the page you visited, the type of device and browser, the country you visited from and the site that sent you. We use this only in summary form, to improve the site and to tell advertisers how many people see their ads.
Most played songs
When a song has played for 30 seconds in the music player, we add one to that song's play count, so the Songbook can show the songs people listen to most. Only the number goes up; nothing about you is stored with it.
Settings saved on your device
Song pages remember which sections you have opened or closed, and the music player remembers what was playing so it can carry on when you open another page and which songs you have played most. All of this uses your browser's own storage. It stays on your device and is never sent to us.
Advertising and cookies
The site is paid for by advertising.
- Sponsors' banners are images we host ourselves. Clicking one takes you to the sponsor's own website, which has its own privacy policy. We may count how many times a banner is seen and clicked, without identifying you.
- Google AdSense. Some spaces may show ads from Google. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your earlier visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google's Ads Settings, or opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info.
- Visitors in the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area and Switzerland are asked for their consent before personalised ads are shown, and can change their choice at any time.
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser's settings. The songs work without them.
Children
The site is family-friendly and is used by schools. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, write to us and we will delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top.
